Woodland UMC has an active program for Christian education enabling members and friends to grow in faith through reading and studying Holy Scripture. Seven different Sunday school classes meet each week, additional Bible studies are provided multiple times each year, and Vacation Bible School is offered each summer, giving children and adults special time to focus on growing and connecting in faith.

Woodland UMC holds fellowship meals and special programs that draw people together for fellowship and fun throughout the year.

Youth Fellowship is active at Woodland UMC. The youth meet once a month and plan activities in the community for service and fun including bowling, snow skiing, ice skating, movie watching, lock-ins, themed parties, and eating pizza.

Woodland UMC has an active United Methodist Women (UMW) and United Methodist Men (UMM) groups which meet monthly connecting with each other and growing in faith. These groups make sizable contributions in various ministries in the local community, the United Methodist Virginia Annual Conference, and in the world beyond. Some of these include support of Heart Haven, Camp Rainbow, Salvation Army, and Meals on Wheels.

Woodland UMC is involved with several local missions that work through as many as 32 churches of various faiths and races. Woodland members and friends support the Isle of Wight Christian Outreach Program, which serves Isle of Wight County with assistance to social services in fuel assistance, a food bank, health assistance, and work projects. Woodland UMC also supports Mission of Hope , which assists the homeless population in Isle of Wight County from November through March of each year. During that time, area churches work together to feed and house the homeless from 6pm to 7am.

Woodland UMC also collects annually for Operation Christmas Child, Angel Tree, Food for Friends, and kits for Annual Conference.
